Digital Design Marketplace

Over the last several months The Hands That Shape, LLC has been heavily involved in participating in local craft shows, expanding our physical product offerings and installing our products in physical stores for year-round in-person shopping.

We are now pleased to announce our expansion into the digital design file marketplace.  We’ve learned so much over the last couple years designing and making our own physical products and those of other talented designers.  As with many other makers, we’ve experienced our fair share of poorly designed files along with really good designs.  From these experiences we’ve tried to address the concerns and failings that we’ve found and experienced over the years and make our files as user friendly as possible while maintaining a high level of detail in the finished wooden art pieces.  We have multiple exciting new designs planned for release over the next several months.

For the initial offering we have multiple files available for purchase to allow you to make these showstopper level art pieces.

  • Bear & Lupines - The piece features a large brown bear walking through a colorful field of lupine flowers.  The background is full of birch trees and the rolling hills of a beautiful mountain valley. The Bear & Lupines design utilizes 13 colors / wood types and contains 120 individual pieces to create a 24”x24” showstopper art piece. The files to make a 22”x22” art piece are also included.

  • Playful Goats - The piece features two playful goats enjoying the final hours of a nice summer day before the sun sets.  The goats can be seen frolicking in a fenced in field with a couple large rocks and an old shade tree.  The Playful Goats design utilizes 12 colors / wood types and contains 193 individual pieces to create a 24”x24” showstopper art piece.

  • Windmill Tulip Field - The piece features endless stripes of colorful tulips with several large tulips in the foreground.   A towering windmill sits in the background watching over the tulip fields.  A lovely piece that may remind you of a past trip or one yet to come.  The Windmill Tulip Field design utilizes 12 colors / wood types and contains 216 individual pieces to create a 24”x24” showstopper art piece. The files to make a 16”x16” art piece are also included.

Each design file provides the digital files to make at least a 24”x24” nominal showstopper art piece.  We include individual laser ready files sorted by color and wood species and make them available in the following formats: DXF, EPS, PDF, and SVG. The wood wall art pieces are made up of individual shapes that are cut out of multiple boards of various colors and wood species that when laid out together create the final wall art piece.

Our files are great for the beginner and also the more experienced maker. We include instructions with each file that walks you through the same process we followed to make the originals. The pieces for each color / wood type are pre-sorted into their own file and orientated to make getting started easy.  Every design has also been tested and built using our laser.  In each product listing we include a video showing us working through the assembly process of each file to give you an idea of what will be involved when you build one too.

An overview of the basic steps needed to make the art piece once you have the file:

o   Gather / prep your materials

o   Cut out the individual shapes from each board using one of our presorted files

o   Organize the shapes like a puzzle by referring to the included color and assembly guide

o   Use masking tape to hold all of the pieces together

o   Glue pieces to a backer

o   Finish to your liking with a frame or other embellishments

By following the steps in the instructions, you too can create a really nice layered wood art piece for your own collection or to expand your physical product offering catalog for your own customers.  Physical products made with our designs are allowed to be sold.

As we work through the schedule for future design file releases, we would love to hear your ideas for new items we should consider and add to our design queue.  What designs would you love to see?  Reach out in the comments below or email us at JBowser@thehandsthatshape.com.  We can’t guarantee that we’ll add every idea to our design queue.  We love to hear feedback and thoughts from our current and future customers.

We would love to see the physical products that you create with our designs, feel free to tag @thehandsthatshape on your posts and even post on our social media pages.
